Glas Scheme – Planting New Hedging

 

Under the Glas scheme farmers have the option of planting blackthorn, whitethorn or holly (Prunus spinosa, Crataegus monogyna or Ilex aquifolium).

A minimum of 6 plants per metre in a double line is required.

All planting work must be complete planting before March 31st 2017.

All newly planted hedges needs to be fenced on both sides to protect from livestock.

You can not plant along a neighbours perimeter as access to both sides of hedge is required for maintenance.

Dead plants must be replaced.

Weed control measures must be in place.

Plants must be purchased from a registered grower or supplier such as Western Plant Nursery.
